Banned Skincare Ad

An ad for skincare brand Ella Bache that was effectively banned from outdoor billboards and poster sites because of the serious expression on the nude models' faces is getting a run in Sydney's Circular Quay.

The image that was deemed too sexy by the Outdoor Media Association was installed as part of an illuminated cube art installation near the Sydney Opera House.

While the OMA - which makes recommendations to its outdoor advertising company members on which ads they should run to stay within advertising guidelines on taste and decency – approved an Ella Bache ad featuring three nude models smiling, it advised its members not to run a similar image of the three women with serious facial expressions, claiming it sexualised the women in question.

However Ella Bache is running both images as part of the outdoor art installation, effectively circumventing the OMA's recommendation.

"The Ella Bache Cube-icle installation at Circular Quay is a modern artistic extension and celebration of our new advertising campaign showcasing all creative executions that were developed,” Ella Bache marketing director Samantha Bragg said.

"They are morphed together in a graphically animated four-minute clip further celebrating our individual skin solutions message."

The installation, the images for which were developed as part of the advertiser's "Skin solutions as individual as you are" campaign, is understood to have been approved by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority.
